Can we imagine a college for advanced studies without a dormitory? We cannot. That is why we are moving.
TEK (College for Advanced Studies in Social Theory) is a leftist, grassroots democratic community and movement. Our housing situation has reached a crisis point: we must relocate from our current dorm by the start of the next academic year. The goal of our fundraising campaign is to finance the renovation of our new building. This is why we need your help.
TEK has been operating in its current building since its foundation, 44 years ago. In recent years, however, our housing security has rapidly deteriorated: we lack sufficient space, the smooth entry of members is no longer guaranteed, we have inadequate communal spaces, and our dormitory fees are skyrocketing. Most importantly, we have less and less autonomy over our own living rules and spaces. Starting next academic year, new regulations will come into effect that would nearly halve the number of residents. Currently, only 22 of our 55 active members can live in the building, and this number will decrease even further next year. We cannot continue to function like this. Without a shared space, there is no community.
This summer, TEK is moving into its own, self-owned building. All funds raised will be dedicated to its renovation. We plan to take possession of the building in June and begin the necessary works immediately: replacing doors, installing partitions, painting, expanding the kitchen, and setting up a fire alarm system.
These are the most basic tasks required to ensure that our members can move into a safe and decent environment. We are not fundraising for a luxury estate, only for basic, dignified housing.
Every single forint received as a donation will be spent directly on the renovation. Our goal is to raise a minimum of 5,000,000 HUF by March 31st. It is important to note that this is only a fraction of the total relocation costs and only partially covers the renovation. There is no time for hesitation, we need your help now!
Every contribution helps us move into our own building, where we have full autonomy. To give you an idea of what your support provides:
- 2,000 HUF = one floor tile
- 5,000 HUF = one lamp
- 10,000 HUF = two buckets of paint
- 25,000 HUF = a new door
- 50,000 HUF = 0.5% of the fire alarm system installation
Beyond our deepest gratitude, we are preparing small surprises for our donors: for any donation over 25,000 HUF, we will gift you a screen-printed TEK T-shirt.
